There’s no denying that content is king in building personal thought leadership. Just like a tree falling in the forest with no one around, a LinkedIn post without an audience might as well not make a sound. If you’ve ever posted content that fell short on visibility and engagement, you know how deflating it can feel.

Fortunately, there are some tricks you can use to promote your LinkedIn content and grow your audience. Here are my favorites.

Every professional has a story to tell, and those who excel know how to convey it effectively. Today, storytelling is the main pillar that supports all quality content.

There are several reasons for that.

  • First, a story is a great blueprint for organizing your personal and business information. Without a story to support it, details surrounding your personal brand can feel random and chaotic.
  • Stories can also help simplify your nuanced personal ideas into a unified vision.
  • Finally, a story helps your audience relate to you and your business or businesses.

How can you leverage storytelling in your content promotion efforts?

Share your unique perspective on business, industry trends, market topics, professional life, as well as motivational content and thought leadership pieces.

Decoding the Science of Hashtags

Hashtags have come a long way since Twitter first launched them in 2007.

Now, they’ve evolved into one of the most powerful tools you can use to boost your visibility online.

Major reports suggest that hashtags can boost a LinkedIn post’s visibility by 12 percent or more. If you’re not using them, you’re missing out on potential engagement. You can’t just toss around any hashtags, though. Instead, use up to 3 relevant to your topic (industry, market, and niche) hashtags in a single post.

Conduct thorough research and capitalize on keywords that resonate with your audience. Use both specific targeted hashtags (e.g., #linkedin, #fintech, #ai) as well as generic hashtags that cover broader categories (e.g., #entrepreneurs, #leaders, #economy).

Tapping into Trending Topics

Trending is another concept that came from the old days of Twitter — specifically 2008.

Today, every social media platform has included some kind of way to follow trending topics. Align your content with trending LinkedIn topics to enhance your own visibility. Check on LinkedIn’s “News and Views” section to see what kind of topics are trending.

Trending topics are elusive by nature. While they can surge in popularity overnight, they can vanish just as swiftly. To capitalize on a trend, act promptly before the spotlight shifts elsewhere.

Engaging With and Forming LinkedIn Groups

On LinkedIn, much like other social platforms, groups serve as a powerful tool for content promoters.

First, groups literally build a community. They’re also a great way to elevate content, since groups will deliver content directly to their members.

However, their immense benefits do come at a cost. It takes some time to build a high-quality group. You need to curate its members carefully. Fill it with people that will engage with content by offering unique insights.

Start by engaging with existing groups before forming your own niche community.

Interacting with LinkedIn Features

One last quick and easy way to promote your content on LinkedIn is implementing features. Including features like polls, questions, stories, and live sessions can help encourage audience engagement, which in turn will drive organic growth as the algorithms get to work.

Consider hosting a monthly live Q&A session, along with weekly or bi-weekly polls and newsletters, to start boosting engagement from your audience.
